Family Safari - the highlight of our African Experience

Image
We had an amazing time on our family safari to Kenya this summer.  I've been at a loss of how to condense into a single post all the cool things we saw and experienced so instead I'll just put a few of our top pics and moments. At Lake Naivasha we had a walking safari where we got to be amongst the giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, impala, etc.  They are such incredible creatures and we could've watched them all day. A pretty surreal experience we had that definitely got our hearts pumping was to do a boat safari to see so many beautiful birds and monkeys then come up close to the big hippos. Lake Nakuru was a beautiful place that we felt we had to ourselves since it was a drive to get there.  Here's a hyena who came to say hi on our morning drive. The rhinos are what made the drive really worth it though.  The boys kept count and we saw 15 of the amazing creatures.  The ones in back here were fighting and the front ones were protecting the gro...

Breath of Fresh Air

Sometimes you just need a breath of fresh air.  We spent our 4th of July here in Ghana at a beach resort called Lou Moon Lodge where we found our own little paradise to spend time together as a family. The resort was gorgeous and we had our own beach house on an island where we could get away from the cares of work and city life. Lucy's flying lessons We spent our time relaxing and participating in some of the activities offered.  We all tried archery but Dylan found a true love for it and got a few bullseyes  Soccer matches were fun but running around barefoot on grass was an even bigger luxury. Stand up paddle boarding- Jaxon and Dylan both rocked it!  Family volleyball game Climbing trees- she didn't make it up as far as the lizard  Somebody's having a little too much fun Table Tennis is their new love.  Lucy wants me put put a table in my suitcase at Christmas. Aren't they cute? ...

Cape Coast Trip

We kicked off summer with a trip to Cape Coast with the Ukorebi's and Luke's families. Our first stop was Kakum National Park with canopy walks high above the rain forest jungle.  I am terrified of heights so I told some friends my goal was to make it across these bridges by the end of our Ghana stay.  But we all made it this time!   No that's not a death grip  Perhaps my kids don't realize when I say smile, that doesn't mean a tongue is involved The look on her face is classic!  It represents how we all were feeling as we took those first few steps.  By the end though everyone was practically skipping across. Jaxon loved it!  He wanted to do a circle and do all 6 bridges again right afterwards. Dylan and May had no fear as they headed right off we barely saw them She loved the option to do a little climbing through the jungle on the way to/from the canopy walk.  Because stairs are for wimps. We stoppped at H...
