International Day

Image
This last week at school, the kid's school celebrated their diversity and mother languages by having performances and activities in other languages and cultures.  It culminated with a big international day carnival on campus.  Some of our highlights: Bradyn's African Drumming club performance  Lucy's Kindergarten assembly song in Swahili International Day parade.  USA was one of 64 nations that have students represented at Lincoln.  Each country had a booth of foods to try.  Jaxon and I loved some food from India and Korea best.  Lucy and Dylan were excited for and loved the pigs in a blanket, rice krispy treats, and snowcone from USA haha Ghanaian Parade leaders Amazing performances from many countries all day.  Here's from a Traditional African Dance Mark was off on assignment in Ivory Coast but has enjoyed getting out and seeing more of the area.  I get out and enjoy activities with friends.  Here are a few pictures from our bati

The gift of Time

This experience in Ghana has given us a few gifts but the biggest one is Time.  Life has a slower pace here.  We have less outside obligations on evenings and weekends so we’ve been able to spend more time together.  We’ve played lots of games, gone swimming almost daily, done puzzles, and played lots of volleyball and soccer outside.  It has its ups and downs but it’s ultimately bringing us closer together. This picture I made them pause their soccer circle for.  I walked into this gem of a positive moment of togetherness yesterday. My days have also freed up as well.  Now I have time to visit the temple more regularly, time to have lunch with friends, time to go serve at a school for the disabled and an orphanage, time to exercise, time to delete and organize  my pictures and emails, time to go to the multiple grocery stores to find what I need (I miss one stop shopping), time to help out in the classrooms, and time to start learning French!

The thing we are the most excited for though is the little space to play soccer and volleyball where we won’t be disturbing other apartment tenants.  Also we love the community pool! There are some amenities we miss here like clean water, a dryer and a dishwasher.  We did get a water filter installed yesterday though so we won’t go through as many water bottles.  The boys now all know how to hand wash dishes after dinner.  I’m becoming domesticated though as I hang laundry out to dry (Well at least I am on the days when the housekeeper doesn’t come. Then we are spoiled) Beautiful sunset walking back to our place after a dip in the pool.  Our beach day with friends. There are some beaches close but we drove an hour to Kokobrite their favorite beach and I’m glad we did!  It was shallow enough for all kids to play but had some great
